Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany knows changes to roster will happen

July 23, 2024

When Vincent Kompany took the mic to kick off Bayern Munich’s training camp in Rottach-Egern, the new coach was peppered with questions regarding the team’s roster and the rampant rumors floating around that transfers and sales would be happening en masse.

“Sales is not my job. I’m here for the team. Every player in the team has a lot of talent. These are players who have been successful in the past. Now it’s about the future, I don’t want to talk about each player individually. That’s not my intention. I want to work with the guys. My feeling is that everyone is showing a lot of hunger. I won’t go into detail about every single player, otherwise we would be talking the whole evening,” Kompany said. “We have a fantastic opportunity to build a strong team. It’s important to integrate the new players as quickly as we can. We’re bringing these new players because we absolutely believe they can be as successful as the previous players. It’s important to bring that energy to the squad”

When specifically asked about which positions he thought needed to be strengthened, Kompany would not publicly address the topic — something that was different than his predecessor, Thomas Tuchel.

“You have to hold press conferences with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund for that, I can’t say anything about that. It will be the same in the future too. I am a link between the players and the club’s management, so I can’t say anything about that,” Kompany.

Kompany, though, has been reported to be a part of the squad planning group, so maybe he is just playing coy at the moment. Whatever the case, change is coming to the Bayern Munich roster and Kompany will be the man to shepherd it all.
