Jamal Musiala reveals NBA legend the inspiration for his goal celebration

June 21, 2024

Jamal Musiala has revealed that his new ‘three to the dome’ goal celebration has been inspired by an NBA legend.

After a whirlwind Bundesliga campaign with Bayern Munich, Jamal Musiala has been taking the European Championship by storm. The talented attacking midfielder could not have asked for a better start to Euro 2024, and his performances have played a crucial role in Germany’s qualification to the round of 16 with a game to spare.

Musiala was on target for Germany again earlier this week as he opened the scoring in their 2-0 win over Hungary. He celebrated the goal by performing the ‘three to the dome’ celebration, made famous by former New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. And after the game, the 21 year old revealed that the celebration was indeed inspired by the NBA legend. When asked by BILD about the celebration, Musiala revealed, “It comes from basketball. From Carmelo [Anthony].”

Carmelo Anthony, who made the celebration famous, enjoyed a legendary NBA career, playing for the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers among other teams. The 2003 3rd overall draft pick and 10x NBA All-Star retired last year after a career spanning 19 years.

Musiala is, of course, an avid basketball fan. He supports the Golden State Warriors and his favorite player is Steph Curry.

On the pitch, the Bayern Munich star has enjoyed a stellar start to his Euro 2024 campaign and has scored in both of Germany’s games so far. He will now hope to keep his impressive run of form going in the coming weeks as Germany look to build on their impressive start to the Euros and win the tournament on home soil.
