Inter Goalkeeper Approached by Newly-Promoted Serie A Outfit
Inter goalkeeper Emil Audero has reportedly received an invitation to join Serie A newcomers Como amidst an uncertain future at Giuseppe Meazza. According to Sky Sport Italia, via TMW, Osian Roberts’ men are keen to sign the 27-year-old as part of the club’s bid to assemble a competitive squad ahead of a long-awaited top-flight return.
Audero joined Inter on loan from Sampdoria last summer. Though Simone Inzaghi’s men have an option to make his stay permanent for €7 million, they’re unlikely to exercise a buyout clause. Instead, the new Italian champions are poised to land Atletico Paranaense star Bento.
Yann Sommer should keep hold of his place between the sticks despite being in the twilight of his playing career. The Swiss stopper enjoyed a sensational maiden season in Serie A, convincing the Inter board to give him a vote of trust for next season.
With Sommer expected to remain Inzaghi’s first choice and Inter laying the groundwork for Bento’s arrival, Audero will likely be free to go. The Indonesian-born keeper will return to Sampdoria, but only to move on, with Como waiting in the wings.
Como director Mirwan Suwarso took to social media to post a photo of himself and Audero, fuelling speculation of the keeper’s imminent Inter exit.
Yet to receive a senior international call-up, the ex-Juventus man has ten caps for Italy U-21. After playing second fiddle to Sommer at Inter throughout 2023/24, that won’t change, as Luciano Spalletti doesn’t consider him an option for the upcoming European Championship.
