Erik ten Hag will not be replaced as Manchester United manager before FA Cup final but Graham Potter considered by hierarchy

May 8, 2024

Erik Ten Hag will not be sacked by Manchester United before the FA Cup final, talkSPORT understands.

Ten Hag is under mounting scrutiny after United were thrashed 4-0 at Crystal Palace on Monday.

If United do decide to make a change, former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is held in high regard by new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Were he to become a free agent Ten Hag would be a contender to take over at Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils are currently eighth in the Premier League and on course for their worst ever finish.

That is just one stat that sums up their dismal season.

The defeat to Palace was their 13th of the season, their most ever in a Premier League campaign.

United have also now conceded 81 goals in all competitions, the most since the 1976/77 seasons (also 81).

The Dutchman did vow to fight for his future, however, with three league games left to go.

Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “I will keep fighting. I prepared the team in the best way I could do. It was not good enough, I have to take responsibility for that but I will find energy and prepare them for Sunday’s game [against Arsenal].”

He added: “It’s clear, it’s obvious, this is under-performing. We didn’t act how we wanted to and it’s not good enough. We are very disappointed.

“Our fans were behind us and we should have kept fighting like the fans did.

“There are always reasons, everyone sees our back line – we have huge problems. At the end of the day, we have to deal with it and we should have done better.”

Following the conclusion of the Premier League season, the Red Devils face Man City in the FA Cup final on May 25.
