BARCELONA PRESIDENT LAPORTA’S FURIOUS REACTION TO GIRONA DEFEAT CONFIRMED

May 5, 2024

An insight into the reaction of Barcelona president Joan Laporta to the club’s damaging defeat at the hands of Girona has tonight been revealed.

Barca, of course, marked their return to action on Saturday evening.

In a crunch clash in the race for 2nd in the La Liga table, Xavi’s troops made the short trip to the Estadi Montilivi, for a meeting with Catalan neighbours Girona.

And, when all said and done, the Blaugrana emerged on the wrong side of a 4-2 result.

After carrying a 2-1 advantage into the interval, a 2nd-half collapse opened the door for Girona to run riot, leapfrogging Barcelona into 2nd in the process.

Making Barca’s eventual defeat an even more damaging one was the fact that it handed the La Liga title directly to Real Madrid, whose victory over Cádiz saw Los Blancos open up a 13-point advantage atop the table, with just four games to play.

In turn, it should not come as a major surprise to hear of those in a position of power on the Blaugrana half of the Clásico divide having been left nothing short of furious on Saturday night.

As per a report from Diario Sport, Joan Laporta was front and centre in as much.

After taking in proceedings at the Estadi Montilivi, Barca’s president, in making his way towards the stadium’s exit, was heard repeatedly shouting ‘this can’t be!’ at those around him.

As much, of course, comes just days on from Laporta and his team of directors confirming Xavi’s decision to stay put for next season…
