PSG tracking ‘unbelievable’ 22-year-old who’s already on Chelsea’s shortlist

April 12, 2024

Chelsea face a transfer battle with French giants Paris Saint-Germain to sign one defender this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino could ask for a new left-back to be signed when the window reopens.

The Argentine does have Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella who can all play there.

However, Chilwell has picked up more than one injury this season, while Colwill is a central defender by trade.

It has also been claimed that Chelsea have offered Cucurella to Real Madrid, so his future at Stamford Bridge is far from certain.

PSG tracking Chelsea target

In an ideal world, Chilwell stays fit and Cucurella rediscovers and maintains the form he had at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, though, things are never that simple these days, so the club may very well have to go out and sign a new left-back.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rayan Ait-Nouri is one name on their shortlist.

However, a report from talkSPORT has now claimed that PSG have been tracking the 22-year-old, which could complicate any pursuit for him.

His manager Gary O’Neil described one of his recent performances as “unbelievable”.

Rayan Ait-Nouri ‘unbelievable’

It is easy to see why O’Neil has spoken so highly of Ait-Nouri this season. The Algeria international has been performing really well.

Going forward, Ait-Nouri can be quite dangerous. He has scored a couple of goals in the current campaign and is completing two dribbles per game, the second-highest average in Wolves’ squad (WhoScored).

Over the last year, the former Angers player has ranked in the 98th percentile for successful take-ons among full-backs (FBref), so dribbling is definitely a strength of his.

Possessing Premier League experience as well, of course, he could be someone Chelsea make a serious push for this summer. Much, however, could hinge on what happens with the Blues’ current crop of left-backs.
