Barcelona legend reveals his favorites to replace Xavi

March 18, 2024

The last few years have seen some of the biggest names in the history of FC Barcelona squad departing the club. Big names like Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Gerard Pique have all left the Catalan side in a matter of a few years.

However, despite them having left the club, there is no doubt that the hearts of all these players still beat with Barcelona. As a result, these former players frequently comment on the situation on-going at the club.

As SPORT has reported, one of these players to have given his opinion on Barcelona’s situation was the defender, Gerard Pique. The former captain opined on whom he would want to see as Xavi’s successor, and gave one obvious and one surprising candidate for this position:

“There are two obvious choices: Guardiola because he has a past here and is the best coach at the moment, and Mikel Arteta. He would also be a good coach because he understands Barcelona and played here in the past.”

However, while these are surely exciting names, Pique still shared the hope that Xavi will not leave the club and was sure that this will be the best way forward for the Catalan club:

“Perhaps the decision Xavi has made is not one hundred percent certain. I think he will stay. I want the best for him because it will be the best for the club.”

On the surface, this hope might look like those of most other ordinary Barcelona fans, who also want Xavi to remain in his position, especially since results have taken a turn for the good in the last few weeks.

However, in the same interview, Pique also revealed that he has been in contact with Xavi several times in the recent past, and the former defender might have more information on the topic than others, and his words might actually turn out to be true in coming months.
