PSG’s Luis Enrique Reveals Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp Impact on Football

January 28, 2024

On Thursday, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp decided to step down from his managerial role with the Reds, concluding his eight-and-a-half-year reign at Anfield.

Klopp explained the rationale and timing behind the announcement, emphasizing the importance of offering clarity as soon as possible to facilitate a smooth transition.

On Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique addressed the media, discussing Klopp’s departure from the Premier League club. One of the questions the Spanish manager answered was what Klopp brought to the game of football.

“Coaches are primarily judged on their results,” Enrique told reporters (h/t Culture PSG). He succeeded in contending for titles and winning many in England and Germany during a period in which [Manchester] City was dominating English football.

“When his teams are in form, like Liverpool, they press intensely, and it becomes challenging to attack or defend against them, especially at such a high pace. I only have positive things to say: a beautiful style and a friendly, warm man. I really like his style.”

Furthermore, the Spanish tactician acknowledges that he understands the 56-year-old’s decision to step back from football and take a break. Enrique notes that it’s a grind to be a manager at the top level and the mental toll it takes.

Having clinched all significant titles at Liverpool, Klopp aims to expand his impressive tally of seven major honors with the club before his departure. The accomplished former Borussia Dortmund manager currently has the team competing vigorously in all three domestic competitions and the UEFA Europa League.
