Bayern Munich reportedly out of the race for Feyenoord CB/RB Lutsharel Geertruida

At this point, Bayern Munich’s lack of depth at center-back and right-back is really well known. As is the fact that Noussair Mazraoui and Kim Min-jae leaving for the African Cup of Nations and Asia Cup respectively stretches that depth ludicrously thin. Having said that, though, Bayern does not seem ready to panic into a quick solution and are instead ruling out certain candidates.

One such ruled out candidate, according to Florian Plettenberg, is Lutsharel Geertruida, Feyenoord’s captain. The Dutch international is 23-years-old and has a contract that runs until 2025. Feyenoord’s expected valuation would apparently be €30 million plus add ons. What could have made him of particular interest to Bayern is his experience playing at both center-back and right-back, even at the highest level in the Champions League, which led to many links in the summer transfer window that ultimately led to nothing. And it seems that he has now been ruled out of a winter window move to the Bavarians as well.

Given Geertruida’s contract situation, it is not inconceivable that Feyenoord would prefer to sell him now in order to not have to sell him for a cut price fee. However, €30 million or more is a lot of money for a player signed to bulk out the club’s depth, even for a club with the resources of Bayern Munich. Whether or not that fee is worthwhile paying, considering the circumstances, is a difficult question to answer. But at the moment, it seems Bayern’s bosses land on the side of no.
