Bayern Munich’s Uli Hoeneß and Christoph Freund hooked up on TV show back in 2022

If you ever wondered exactly when sporting director Christoph Freund started to become a serious candidate for Bayern Munich’s front office, there is a backstory for that.

Per Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeneß, the relationship really ramped up during an appearance on Talk im Hangar-7, where Hoeneß and Freund met and started to hit it off. Here is how it played out (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):

In February 2022, Uli Hoeneß and Christoph Freund were guests together at Austrian talk show @talkimhangar7. Hoeneß returned to the show yesterday.

Presenter asked him: “Did we set you up [with Christoph Freund] back then?”

Hoeneß: “I would say you were the obstetrician. We actually got to know each other better on the show back then, I really liked him. He had been on our list for a long time – and you can already say that it was a stroke of luck.”

Back in the old days, they might have referred to this as “a courtin’ and a sparkin’”, but whatever the case, Freund has done well so far in his role. Now, though, Freund is in the spotlight for the winter transfer window.

With the team needing a player (or maybe a few players), at least Freund can always lean on his old pal Hoeneß for some advice.
