PSG’s Luis Enrique Sets Record Straight Over Kylian Mbappé Role
Paris Saint-Germain was minutes away from securing all three points against Lille OSC. However, a Jonathan David goal in added time to level the scoring led to a 1-1 draw on Sunday night at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
The capital club generated chances and eventually had a penalty kick called in their favor. Kylian Mbappé would convert to give the French giants a 1-0 lead before David secured the late game-tying goal.
In his postgame scrum with the press, manager Luis Enrique had to answer a question involving Mbappé. One reporter asked why the Spanish tactician is putting the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner as the striker, considering it’s not his preferred position.
Nonetheless, Enrique made a quick correction and stated that the Frenchman isn’t bound to play in the No. 9 position, as some might think.
“[Mbappé] plays where he decides; he has total freedom,” Enrique said (h/t Paris Fans). “He has complete freedom to play inside, outside, wherever he wants, and we have to balance our positions in relation to him. The question is who will follow Kylian by attacking inside or outside; it will depend on the match.”
PSG will look to wrap up 2023 and head into the holiday break on a positive note when they welcome FC Metz to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.
