Manuel Neuer marks his 700th club appearance in Bayern Munich’s Champions League win, looks ahead to EURO 2024

December 14, 2023

Germany will be spoiled for choice at the keeper position between Neuer and Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen.

Manuel Neuer made his 700th appearance at club level on Tuesday. With a 1-0 Champions League victory for Bayern Munich over Manchester United, the German international marked 318 clean sheets as well.

But the 37-year-old was not even aware of the landmark.

“I didn’t know that,” Neuer said of his milestone after the match (as captured via @iMiaSanMia). “I’m fit. I didn’t expect things to work so well, and to keep up with the rhythm without having to take a break. We are very happy, I’m very grateful to the doctors.”

The keeper is marking his return to the pitch after an extraordinary injury after last year’s Men’s World Cup left him on the sidelines. He will still have to prove himself and reclaim his spot in Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s side for EURO 2024 — a position which has been filled first by FC Barcelona keeper Marc-André ter Stegen, then by Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp.

“We are in regular contact. We are teammates and we all want to play a good European Championship,” Neuer added for Prime Video DE (via @iMiaSanMia). “No matter how it ends, we will have a good goalkeeper between the posts.”
