Paris Saint-German boss makes ‘incredible’ Newcastle United claim ahead of Champions League clash

November 28, 2023

Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has previewed his side’s Champions League clash against Newcastle United.

Paris Saint-Germain will treat the Champions League clash against Newcastle United “like a final”, according to manager Luis Enrique.

The French giants can take a huge step towards the last 16 by beating the Magpies, who must avoid defeat at the Parc des Princes in order to keep their respective hopes alive.

As it stands, PSG sit second in Group F, two points ahead of bottom-of-the-table United and one point behind leaders Borussia Dortmund. AC Milan are third with five points.

“The Parc des Princes will carry us, I expect a great atmosphere. We really need the fans, we need a warmer and more passionate stadium than normal,” Enrique said at his pre-match press conference.

“We will play this game like a final. At this level, home games are key matches. The public is a special asset for us, we expect incredible support.”

PSG may be out for revenge this evening (kick-off 8pm) after suffering a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park in October.

Indeed, Enrique is under no illusions about how strong Eddie Howe’s side are having watched their 4-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

“If you saw the last match against Chelsea, physically it’s really incredible.” the former Barcelona boss added. “The intensity and pressure in their game is something we have to be prepared for.

“We have to keep the ball and prevent opportunities. It’s always the same thing, we try to play in their half of the pitch. We have to make this match difficult for the other team and be clinical. We need to play at a very high level to win.”
