‘He’s been outstanding’ – Nigeria legend Okocha believes Chukwueze has the tools
Super Eagles legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has backed Samuel Chukwueze to succeed at AC Milan, saying the winger has all the qualities needed to make an impact at the seven-time European champions.
Chukwueze ended a six-year association with Villarreal in the summer transfer window after signing a multi-year contract with the Rossoneri.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner has yet to establish himself as a first team regular at AC Milan, having made five appearances in the Serie A off the bench and one as a starter.
His other start since transferring to AC Milan was against Newcastle United in the Champions League, lasting approximately an hour on the San Siro turf before he was substituted.
Competition for spots in the AC Milan squad is fierce with Chukwueze battling United States poster boy Christian Pulisic and Argentina’s 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup star Luka Romero for the right wing role.
Chukwueze flourished during his time at Villarreal, scoring 37 goals and notching 31 assists in 207 matches.
Speaking to LiveScore, Okocha said: “He’s been outstanding in the last few years now. He’s been faced with a new challenge and it’s all about how quickly he can adjust.
“Language is always important because it’s always good to be able communicate but his talent is never in doubt.
“I think he’s a great addition to the Milan team and I have no doubt that he will do well.”
AC Milan have started the season solidly, winning six of their seven games in the Serie A and picked up a point in their Champions League opener against Newcastle United.
