‘Shameful’ – Inter Milan Star Defends PSG’s Donnarumma After Booing at San Siro

September 13, 2023

Gianluigi Donnarumma isn’t a popular player at the San Siro after leaving AC Milan in 2021 as a free agent to sign with Paris Saint-Germain. Despite not playing club football, the 24-year-old still gets a rough treatment.

Although it’s international football, some would assume that Donnarumma wouldn’t receive a hostile reception. However, that isn’t the case. As a result, Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi is coming to the defense of the PSG goalkeeper after Italy’s 2-1 win over Ukraine on Tuesday at San Siro.

“It was honestly shameful,” Frattesi said. “I have never seen anything like this, an international player booed by his own crowd. I do not understand why he gets jeered like that. We are representing Italy here. I went over and told him, ‘He’s great and that we love him, but he doesn’t need it.’ Donnarumma is a top player. He can handle this easily and just shakes it off.”

Donnarumma will have to visit the San Siro when PSG travels to face AC Milan on Nov. 7, where the shot-stopper will be public enemy No. 1 for the fans there. So, this was likely a taste of what’s to come in a few weeks.

Still, Frattesi is correct in his criticism, as Donnarumma isn’t playing for a club, and he’s representing Italy. Nonetheless, it seems some fans can’t separate club and national team.
