Milan Experience Setback in Seesawing Taremi Talks

August 31, 2023

Milan seemed on the precipice of snapping up Mehdi Taremi Wednesday afternoon, but then the deal went backward. They are poised for another frantic day of negotiations with Porto and his camp. The two clubs concurred on a €15M valuation plus add-ons before different problems emerged, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The veteran initially accepted a three-year contract with €1.5M wages. However, while the two sides were sorting out the bonuses and the payment structure, the striker’s entourage started to have reservations about the personal terms.

Milan are unlikely to raise their offer for Taremi. Otherwise, they’d overstep the budget they set for their final purchase. They are ready to stand pat, leaning on the attackers already on the roster.

The parties will continue to bargain on Thursday. However, there are less than 48 hours left in the transfer window. Moreover, Taremi is an extra-EU player, so his transfer requires extra bureaucracy. The accord should preferably be found on Thursday and not at the last minute.

According to Calciomercato, the latest issues in the Taremi deal derive from the commissions asked by his agents and Jorge Mendes to Milan. Plus, the Rossoneri didn’t like how Porto requested to revise the terms very late in the game. The deal is still on for the time being, and there’s moderate optimism it will go through anyway.
