Justin Kluivert enjoying Premier League life at AFC Bournemouth

August 23, 2023

JUSTIN Kluivert says he “can’t wait to maybe get more minutes” after enjoying his first taste of the Premier League in recent weeks.

The Netherlands international joined Cherries from Roma in the summer for a reported £9.5million.

The winger is now competing in his fifth different country in the past five seasons, following spells with RB Leipzig, Nice and Valencia, as well as Roma.

Kluivert has come off the bench in each of Cherries’ two league matches so far, coming close to his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

Reflecting on the 3-1 loss at Anfield, the former Ajax man told the Daily Echo: “Unlucky. We started very good, we tried.

“Beautiful, a good start. That’s what you want, to start like that, to get 1-0 in front and we had a great start.”

Asked what he had been tasked to do when coming on just past the hour mark, the 24-year-old added: “I was waiting and they scored to make it 3-1, that’s always difficult.

“They’re in their motion and to come on is difficult. But I tried to score goals and that is the only thing that counts.”

Reflecting on his early taste of Premier League action, Kluivert said: “I find it good. I can’t wait to maybe get more minutes.

“But the season has just started so I’m happy to be here and looking forward to a lot more games.”

Despite losing, Cherries came away with some credit for their performance at Anfield, creating chances and attempting to play on the front foot when they could.

“It’s a big statement and as you saw, that’s not easy because that is also the style they like,” said Kluivert.

“But we tried and that’s what we could do. We gave our best and we didn’t succeed.

“But maybe in the next game.”

Quizzed on if he feels Cherries will have the same approach when Tottenham Hotspur come to Vitality Stadium on Saturday, Kluivert said: “I guess for sure that is (the plan).

“We are ambitious. I think we can do that.

“On Saturday we didn’t get the best of it, but in the next game we go again, 100 per cent.”
