PSG transfer latest could see Rangers Champions League boost
If Rangers do make it through against Servette tonight, the sizeable challenge of PSV Eindhoven waits on the other side in the final obstacle to the Champions League, barring a Sturm Graz miracle that is.
The Dutch outfit have a host of supremely talented players at their disposal and there was nothing to separate the two sides last year.
One such talent who could cause Rangers problems is Ibrahim Sangare who, after being linked with Liverpool and Bayern Munich, is now said to be in negotiations with PSG, according to Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport.
Rangers looking for big money Ibrahim Sangare favour
Sangare was the dominant midfielder when the two sides met last season.
In Rangers terms, think Ryan Jack positionally but with Todd Cantwell’s ability on the ball and the build of Connor Goldson, Ibrahim Sangare is the textbook modern midfielder.
It is little wonder that, for £32m, two of Europe’s heavyweights are both eyeing a bid.
The report from Hawkins claims that talks are under way for the 25-year old but, with a release clause, PSV don’t have much of a say in terms of negotiations.
Should either side match the fee, Rangers could benefit from Ibrahim Sangare moving on.
Even if an official offer hasn’t been made or agreed, with such a big move on the line, will the Ivory Coast international be in the right frame of mind to play in a Champions League play-off game?
Hopefully not.
What this does demonstrate though, is the size of the task that waits beyond Servette.
Johan Bakayoko and Joey Veerman have both been linked with moves to the Premier League and neither would come cheap.
Key players in key positions that could cause Rangers defence a lot of problems with Ibrahim Sangare at the heart of it.
