Barcelona set to register six key players with €20 million injection ahead of Getafe clash

August 11, 2023

With the official La Liga season set to now finally kick off, FC Barcelona continue to be wrapped up with the dilemma of not having thus far registered several players in the team as the new season is just around the corner.

As a result, FC Barcelona looked at several sources of income over the summer transfer window in order to find adequate funding that would allow them to make the registrations of various stars possible so that Xavi Hernandez has his players available at his disposal.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are set to today conclude the operation concerning German investment fund ‘Libero’ as they acquire set percentage rights of Barca Studios.nAs per the details provided, the investment fund is set to acquire 16% of Barca Studios in exchange for €60 million.

However, this payment will be made in two separate installments with the first one being worth around €20 million and entitling Libero to 5% of Barca Studios, with the remaining 11% to be paid for later in the month of August for which the investment fund will pay up €40 million.

The 16% in question that Libero is taking over amounts to 8% each out of the 24.5% in the original agreement allocated to both Orpheus Media (24.5%) and Socios.com (24.5%) which in collaboration equaled to 49% of Barca Studios.

The report further states that courtesy of this injection of €20 million alongside the funds generated from the transfers of Franck Kessie (€12.5 million) and that of Ousmane Dembele (currently providing Barcelona €25 million from that operation), the Catalans have enough of a financial maneuverability to register a good part of the unregistered players in the team.

Xavi Hernandez and FC Barcelona believe the players that should first be registered are ones that the coach primarily counts on as to make sure the upcoming La Liga clash against Getafe is one where Xavi is not understaffed in terms of necessary personnel.

The Barcelona players currently being looked at to be registered included Ronald Araujo, Alejandro Balde, Inaki Pena, Sergi Roberto, Oriol Romeu, and Ilkay Gundogan.

Other stars such as Marcos Alonso and the still recovering Inigo Martinez may potentially have to wait before their registrations take place in the records of La Liga.

While the offer made by Libero has been accepted by Barcelona due to its attractiveness in terms of its application for Barca and the club’s needs, the Catalan giants also received another offer from a Mexican investment fund by the name of Mountain Nazca that had offered to buy up the entirety of the 49% of Barca Studios that was up for sale in exchange for a total of €180 million.

However, their initial installments would have been slower and less significant than that of Libero and as a result, the Catalans preferred the German entity’s offer due to the flexibility it offered Barcelona in terms of being able to use the funding for the finalisation of necessary operations.
