Jamie Carragher questions why Liverpool are not moving to sign £60k-a-week Chelsea target

August 8, 2023

Jamie Carragher suggests that Liverpool should be hijacking Chelsea’s interest in Brighton star Moises Caicedo this summer.

This transfer window has been filled with rumours that Chelsea want to bring Moises Caicedo, 21, to Stamford Bridge ahead of the new season.

However, the Blues have yet again run into a brick wall when it comes to negotiating with Premier League rivals Brighton.

The Guardian recently reported that Chelsea are preparing another new bid to sign Caicedo. As it stands, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have gone as high as £80million and are yet to reach the £100million price tag.

Meanwhile, well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that Caicedo has sent a clear message to Brighton that he’s desperate for them to sell him to Chelsea.

Carragher has admitted he’s gobsmacked Liverpool are not rumoured to be chasing Brighton’s defensive midfielder in this window.

“Not sure why Liverpool aren’t in for Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for Jordan Henderson + Fabinho,” Carragher wrote on Twitter.

Brighton are clearly trying to squeeze every penny out of Caicedo’s sale this summer, but he could be worth it for the buying club.

The £60,000-a-week star (Spotrac) is a Rolls-Royce in the centre of the park that was in the conversation for one of the Premier League’s best midfielders last season.

At the age of 21, the Ecuador international has crazy potential and quality.

It may be wise for Chelsea to try quickly wrap this transfer up before someone like Liverpool see sense and move for one of the world’s best young midfielders.
