Juventus line up fresh talks to sign Franck Kessie

July 17, 2023

Serie A giants Juventus might soon enter talks to sign 26-year-old Ivorian midfield powerhouse Franck Kessie from Barcelona this summer.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Franck Kessie is a top target for Juventus in the ongoing transfer window. And the Serie A giants are lining up talks with Barcelona for the 26-year-old midfield powerhouse. But they first want to understand the player’s plan for the upcoming season.

Franck Kessie joined Barcelona last summer in a Bosman move after his contract with AC Milan expired. The Ivory Coast international arrived at Spotify Camp Nou as one of the best midfielders in Serie A. But he would not have envisioned struggling for game time when the 2022/23 season began.

The 26-year-old turned out 43 times across all competitions last season. But only a fraction of Kessie’s outings were from the get-go, as he managed less than 2,000 minutes of game time. And the player’s Barcelona future is uncertain as the Catalan giants look to balance their books. Several clubs have thus shown interest in securing his services.

Premier League clubs are keen on signing the former AC Milan talisman, with Chelsea recently showing interest. Recent reports have also linked the struggling Barcelona midfielder with Saudi Arabian outfits. But Serie A might be Kessie’s realistic destination, with several teams eager to land him.

Inter Milan first joined the race to secure Kessie’s services several months ago. But they have fallen behind Juventus in the battle for his signature. And recent reports have suggested the Barcelona midfield powerhouse is the priority summer target for Juventus. And they have already made exploratory contact to initiate the discussions.

The Serie A giants are now lining up new round of talks with Barcelona to discuss the 26-year-old. But they first want to understand Kessie’s plan for the upcoming season before launching the offensive to sign him. However, Fabrizio Romano has suggested the player either wants to remain at FC Barcelona or move to the Premier League.

So Juventus’s prospects in the race to secure Kessie’s services this summer might not be bright. But it will be interesting to see if the Serie A giants convince Barcelona and the Ivorian midfield powerhouse to seal the deal.
