Chelsea finalising deal to sign Christian Pulisic
Chelsea and AC Milan are working on the final precise details before sealing the agreement for USMNT international Christian Pulisic.
According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Christian Pulisic is on the verge of joining AC Milan. The Rossoneri will pay a base fee of around €20 million to land the Chelsea attacker. And the two clubs are working on the final details before sealing the agreement for the player.
Christian Pulisic would have raised the expectation levels around him after joining Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in 2019. The West London club shelled out a whopping €64 million to land the 24-year-old. But while he had a memorable debut season with Chelsea, his performance levels have wavered since then.
The USMNT international has struggled for consistency, with injuries also playing spoilsport for him. So he has not justified Chelsea’s outlay of €64 million to secure his services nearly five years ago. And it is hardly surprising that the player became surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge heading into the summer transfer window.
A few clubs have shown interest in securing Pulisic’s services this summer. But Lyon and AC Milan were the front-runners to sign the American attacker from Chelsea. And the Rossoneri soon steered clear of the rest, as the player had his heart set on moving to San Siro.
AC Milan took little time to seal an agreement on personal terms with the struggling attacker. But getting Chelsea to compromise on the transfer fee was a tall order for the Italian club. However, the two clubs finally achieved the breakthrough in discussions this week. And the player is on the verge of joining AC Milan.
Chelsea will not recoup anything close to the €64 million they paid to land the 24-year-old. And the Serie A giants are shelling out a base fee of €20 million to secure Pulisic’s services. Meanwhile, the two clubs are working on the “bureaucratic details” of the transfer.
So the official announcement from Chelsea and AC Mila might not take long. And Pulisic’s frustrating stint with the West London club will end in the coming days. It will be interesting to see if he can resurrect his stuttering career at San Siro next season.
