William Saliba makes major Arsenal contract demand amid concerning PSG links
Arsenal defender William Saliba has made a huge demand in the contract negotiations over a new deal. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain uncertainty over his future.
Saliba enjoyed a sensational first season in England, helping the Gunners to the top of the Premier League table. His injury in March was the start of the downfall of their season, with Mikel Arteta’s men winning only five of their remaining 10 games of the season.
The club have been attempting to secure the services of the 21-year-old after already agreeing new deals with Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. However, negotiations have proved difficult.
football.london understands that the club remain confident Saliba will renew his deal. It’s thought the Gunners have proposed a long-term deal worth £120,000-per-week, less than what the former Saint Etienne man is demanding.
Now, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, Saliba is looking to secure a significant pay rise after becoming one of Arsenal’s star players. “He obviously wants to be well compensated, and quite rightly so given the season that he’s just had,” he told GiveMeSport.
“It was always going to take a bit more time. There’s bound to be suitors and interest in Saliba because of the current contractual situation.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already expressed his desire to keep hold of the centre-back. Speaking about the France international’s future in north London, he said: “Obviously Edu and the board are on top of every negotiation regarding new contracts and now we are doing everything we possibly can to do that in the right moment at the right time.
“The communication and the relationship is super. It is about timing, I think. Nothing else.”
