‘Ridiculous’: Simon Jordan says 48-year-old is the reason why Leeds are in trouble

May 24, 2023

Simon Jordan believes Leeds United’s uncertain ownership situation is the reason why they are set to be relegated this season.

The former Crystal Palace chairman was speaking live on talkSPORT, where he claimed the conflict of opinions between Leeds’ two majority shareholders has led to him some illogical decisions.

Leeds currently sit 19th in the table and in need of a miracle to remain in the Premier League on the final day after a dismal run of results.

While hoping both Bournemouth and West Ham United can pick up results at Everton and Leicester City respectively, Leeds will need to beat Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road in order to stay up..

Jordan pins blame on ownership situation
From the beginning of last summer to today, Leeds’ season has been riddled with poor decisions on player recruitment and managers.

Of Leeds’ nine major signings across the last two transfer windows, no more than four can be considered any sort of success.

Including Michael Skubala’s caretaker spell – which almost certainly would’ve spanned longer than three games but for a damaging defeat at Everton – Leeds are now on their fourth manager of the season.

The club waited too long to get rid of Jesse Marsch and the decision to bring in Javi Gracia after a number of failed approaches for first choice targets, was a bad one.

Appointing Sam Allardyce for the final four matches was done out of nothing other than sheer panic and all the signs are pointing towards in not working out.

Jordan says while the financial situation is no where near as detrimental as the last time Leeds were relegated from the Premier League, the owners are to blame for a shambolic season.

He said: “They’re not going down like they did in 2004 absolutely weighed down by mismanagement from people like Peter Ridsdale and maybe Alan Leighton who was on the board and involved in the decisions that they made.

“They’re going down because they wasted their own time and wasted opportunity, but they’re not going down in an economic car crash. Maybe it’ll clear the water for them.

“Maybe this ridiculous push me pull me mentality of who’s running that football club [will go]. Radrizzani wanting to get out of the door and ultimately someone else wanting to buy it, and neither one making particularly good decisions.

“Because there’s logical thinking behind Jesse Marsch bouncing into Javi Gracia, then bouncing into Sam Allardyce with four games to go after spending a certain amount of money in the January window, never playing the player you bought in the January transfer window, and then firing the coach directly after the transfer window who bought the players.

“So maybe there will be clarity.”

He’s right. You can’t get away with the sheer number of bad decisions from the top at this level of football and looks almost certain to cost Leeds their Premier League status.

A fresh start is required this summer and the sooner San Francisco 49ers Enterprises complete a full takeover, the better.
