Barcelona believe Bayern Munich superstar could be available for less than €60 million

May 18, 2023

On Wednesday, reports emerged claiming that Barcelona had shown an interest in signing Bayern Munich superstar Joshua Kimmich in the summer. The 28-year-old is understood to have grown unhappy at the Allianz Arena and is looking for a change of scenery, with Barça’s project said to excite him.

However, soon after, reports claimed that Bayern Munich had no desire to sell their midfield mainstay and even see him as a future first captain once Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller call time on their careers.

Despite that, a fresh report from Mundo Deportivo’s Ferran Martinez is now claiming that Barcelona see Kimmich as a real option and based on the information from the German international’s entourage, they believe that he could be signed for less than €60 million.

It is well-established at this point that Barça are in the market for a midfielder in the pivot position and that Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is their preferred option. However, his €60 million release clause makes the operation difficult.

But now, the Blaugrana believe that they can sign Kimmich for a sum lesser than that, with his contract expiring in 2025.

Bayern Munich, though, will likely make it hard for the La Liga champions as they have never really been a selling club. However, Kimmich and his entourage are confident that they could secure an exit if they were to impress on the Bavarians that the midfielder is unhappy.

And Barcelona are waiting for Kimmich to inform the German champions of his desire to leave, at which point they plan to open negotiations with them over a move for the 28-year-old.

There seems to be some level of confidence within the Barça camp if the aforementioned report is to go by. However, negotiations with Bayern Munich will not be easy and it remains to be seen if Kimmich does push for an exit which could make things a little easier.
