These two Leeds United players are proving a major point to Sam Allardyce

May 15, 2023

Leeds United right-back duo Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen have been given a new lease of life under Sam Allardyce this month.

Leeds’ defence has come in for justified criticism this season, conceding the most goals in the league as things stand and being all over the place without the ball.

Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia could do nothing to organise the side in that regard, but Sam Allardyce has come in and already made these previously hapless players look structured, albeit without much of the ball in two games thus far.

That showed in their spirited display against Newcastle United, where Leeds took their performance against the best team in the league, and translated that into their showing against the third-best.

Here, we look at two players who we think are proving a major point to Allardyce at this moment in time…

The right-back had been struggling hugely in April, much like a lot of the side, with the Crystal Palace game in particular exposing his weakness in 1-v-1 defending.

This game threatened to do the same for him as he came up against Alexander Isak, who made a mockery of Everton’s right channel not long ago.

There were some worrying moments from the right-back as he got caught a couple of times diving into challenges where he didn’t need to, but overall, he was solid.

Capping it off was his trademark late run into the box to follow up Rodrigo’s parried effort, to give Leeds the lead in the first-half.
