Leeds United to earn over £100million by selling at least five stars if relegated

April 29, 2023

Leeds United are expecting to make over £100million from selling assets if they are relegated to the Championship next month.

Leeds are feeling the pressure of the relegation battle at the moment as they sit just above the drop zone with only five games left.

A drop back into the Championship would be a huge blow to the club from a financial and a footballing perspective, having spent 16 years out of the top flight previously and struggling with money.

Who could leave Leeds in the summer?

There’s no telling how many of Leeds’ first-team stars would leave in the summer, given the number of internationals on show at Elland Road.

The likes of Willy Gnonto, Tyler Adams, Illan Meslier and some others would be inevitable exits given their age and performances in the Premier League.

Others earning high wages could be sold too in order to balance the books and free up space for a rebuild, akin to how Burnley have operated this season to seal their instant return to the top division.

How much would Leeds be set to make?

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath has now claimed that Leeds would be expecting to earn over £100million from selling their star players.

Key exits that have been pointed to in that report are that of Gnonto, Adams, Meslier, and even struggling duo Patrick Bamford and Brenden Aaronson are thought by the club to still be worth a great deal if Leeds drop into the EFL.
