Could Xabi Alonso be Real Madrid’s future manager?

April 25, 2023

Carlo Ancelotti has done a brilliant job in his second stint as Real Madrid manager, and seems to be loved by both players and staff around the team. In his first season back at Santiago Bernabeu in the 21/22 season, he guided Los Blancos to victories in La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup.

This season, things are not going as smoothly, but there is a ton of potential. Real Madrid are all but out of the La Liga title race, with Barcelona holding an 11 point lead at the top of the table. Los Blancos, however, could still win both the Copa del Rey, as well as the UEFA Champions League.

Ancelotti has been linked with a Real Madrid exit a number of times this season due to the team’s inconsistent form. But winning silverware should be enough to extend his stay at the club beyond this campaign.

On the other hand however, it is still possible that Real Madrid could end up going trophyless. In that scenario, it would be interesting to see what the club will decide to do.

Could Xabi Alonso be Real Madrid’s future manager?
Alonso could be a wild card choice to be the next manager of Real Madrid, but he could be a good choice regardless. Having only been appointed as Bayer Leverkusen head coach in October of last year, with the German club struggling badly. The Spaniard has been working wonders since then though.

When Alonso took over, the club was looking at a potential relegation struggle in the Bundesliga. Now he has taken Bayer Leverkusen all the way up to 6th place in the league as well as guiding them to a UEFA Europa League semi-finals match up against AS Roma.

The Spaniard has been making his mark in the Bundesliga having put on many impressive tactical displays and even going on to defeat defending champions Bayern Munich. Some would argue it could be too early to hand Alonso the Real Madrid job, but we’ve seen what the likes of Zinedine Zidane achieved in the past.
