Irked Pep Guardiola once fined Gerard Pique for PARTYING after a cup defeat by Sevilla and former Barcelona star reveals team-mate Carles Puyol ‘cut ties’ with him over his night out lifestyle

April 4, 2023

Gerard Pique’s party lifestyle at Barcelona got him in trouble with boss Pep Guardiola – and one time in particular stands out.

The former Barca defender told all on a recent appearance on Jijantes’ Twitch stream, revealing Guardiola’s irritation led to a fine after Pique partied following a cup exit at the hands of Sevilla.

Pique – who previously revealed he once got in trouble for wearing short sleeves in snow – was known as a party animal and results did not dictate his appetite to go out, to Guardiola’s chagrin.

Barcelona had beaten Sevilla 1-0 in the first leg, only to be eliminated after a 2-1 defeat in the second, with Pique an unused substitute in that game.

‘After two or three days he caught me again, fined me again and left me out,’ he expllained. ‘At that time I was 22 years old and I out more than the sun!’

Pique makes few apologies for his party lifestyle as a young player, then in his early twenties.

‘I went out the day after the match, the next day I went out, then you didn’t go out the day before the match… people still didn’t recognise me.’

In his first year at Barcelona his partner in crime at these late night parties was team-mate Carles Puyol – but that was not to last.

‘Puyi never went out,’ he added. ‘He went out two or three times and the rumour started that Puyi was going out to a party. He s*** himself and didn’t go out anymore.’

That did not deter Pique as he confessed he continued to go out, despite team-mates thinking better of it and his manager ticked off.

Nonetheless Pique was quick to point out that the pair’s relationship was largely very good after he rejoined the club from Manchester United.

Pique returned to his boyhood club from Barcelona in summer 2008, around a month before Guardiola became manager, and quickly became a key player in the heart of the defence.

The centre half won three LaLiga titles and two Champions League crowns under Guardiola, who then joined German giants Bayern Munich in 2012.
