Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid safe until June

February 9, 2023

Following the shock 1-0 loss to RCD Mallorca in La Liga on Sunday, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti finds himself under increasing pressure.

The reigning champions of Spain and Europe are now eight points behind leaders and rivals Barcelona and questions are being raised over the performances of the men in white.

Amidst this, reports suggested that Ancelotti could be shown the doors by Real Madrid in case he fails to guide the team to the FIFA Club World Cup trophy.

Los Blancos face off against Egyptian club Al Ahly in the semi-finals of the competition in Morocco on Wednesday. A victory there would set up a date in the final with either Flamengo or Al Hilal.

While Real Madrid go into the tournament as favourites, injuries and recent performances have created some doubts, leading to speculations about Ancelotti’s job being in danger.

However, according to Jose Felix Diaz of MARCA, Ancelotti’s future is not under immediate threat and the FIFA Club World Cup is not seen as the final test for the Italian tactician and the rest of the team.

The report states that there have been ups and downs when it comes to the club’s confidence level in the manager and the team this season based on results. But Real Madrid are not one to take impulsive decisions and assess everything based on logic and analysis.

It is further claimed that Los Blancos were in a similar situation last season as well, but ended it with the La Liga and Champions League crowns.

Any call on Ancelotti’s continuity will only be taken in June, once the season is over, much like with the contracts of the players whose current deals are expiring.

For now, there have been some concerns, but the Club World Cup will not decide Ancelotti’s fate at Real Madrid. The focus, for now, is on winning the trophy for the eighth time.
