Barcelona fear that AC Milan will send Dest back
The defender joined the Serie A giants on loan last summer
Barcelona offloaded Sergino Dest to AC Milan last summer, when the 22-year-old full-back joined the Serie A club on a one-year loan deal.
The agreement between the two clubs includes a 20 million euro buyout option, but AC Milan are not expected to trigger it. Barcelona are concerned, as they fear that Dest will be forced to return to the Camp Nou.
The USMNT international is not enjoying much playing time at the Serie A giants. He has only played 11 games, starting in just two of them.
It will be surprising if AC Milan decided to keep Dest. This means that he will return to the Blaugrana despite not being part of Xavi Harnandez‘s plans.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will need to work on balancing their wage bill, as his departure allowed them to free up space in their salary cap in their bid to comply with LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play last summer.
Dest signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2020. He joined from Ajax in exchange for 21 million euros. The USMNT right-back played several games under Ronald Koeman, but he didn’t enjoy much playing time under Xavi.
His contract runs until 2025, which means that Barcelona would have to amortize more than eight million euros at the end of the season.
