Memphis Depay makes encouraging Atletico Madrid debut

January 22, 2023

The striker played the last quarter of an hour

Memphis Depay highlighted in his presentation that when he visited the Wanda Metropolitano as a Barcelona player last season he was impressed. The striker said he was looking forward to playing in the stadium that is his new home, as he now knows what to expect. He came on with 15 minutes to go and received a standing ovation from the stands.

After being greeted by Diego Simeone, the Dutchman played an exciting quarter of an hour on his Atletico Madrid debut.

Memphis fought for the ball in the penalty area, had the opportunity to shoot at goal with some menace and although the fact that he has only had two training sessions with his teammates was noticeable, his cameo was encouraging.

In a game in which Simeone‘s team had everything going for them, the new signing got a taste of what awaits him at his new club.

After taking to the pitch, Memphis was involved at all times and also looked for danger using space, but the hectic week he has had was noticeable.

The striker will be able to provide his team with work up front, speed in behind and quality in front of goal. In addition, he does not mind looking to his teammates and lending a hand in defensive tasks as was seen at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano.
