Bochum suspend Mousset indefinitely

VfL Bochum confirmed the suspension of French striker Lys Mousset on Monday afternoon. After multiple performance and disciplinary issues, signs now point to a contract termination with the former Premiership talent. 

Signed on a free transfer this past offseason, former Sheffield United and AFC Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset has been unable to establish himself under the VfL Bochum coaching regimes of Thomas Reis and Thomas Letsch this season. The 26-year-old didn’t manage to log a single minute of action with his new German club.

Reporting from VfL Bochum’s training camp in the Spanish town of Jerez de la Frontera, Oliver Bitter of Germany’s Kicker magazine reports that the attacker initially reported to summer training camp overweight. Bitter writes that further performance and disciplinary problems followed. VfL sporting director Patrick Fabian essentially confirmed this.

“We kept giving him a chance, now there’s no point,” Fabian said from the club’s Andalusian base, “This is fairly disappointing as we, of course, had sporting hopes for him. At a certain point, it comes time to preserve [discipline] for the entire group.”

Bitter writes that the last straw came when Mousset arrived late for training today. The forward who made nearly 100 appearances in the English Premiership still maintains an estimated  market value of €1.5 million. Bochum will almost certainly be keen to rip up his contract now, seeing as how his salary likely weighs down the payroll unnecessarily.
