NEW MILAN SIGNING VASQUEZ: ‘HAVE TO WIN STARTING SPOT’

January 7, 2023

Milan’s latest signing Devis Vasquez revealed his ambitions and goals following his move to the Rossoneri.

The Milanese outfit picked up the 24-year-old Colombian goalkeeper from Paraguayan side Club Guarani, paying around €470,000 for the untested shot stopper. Recurring injuries to number one Mike Maignan have forced Milan to react on the transfer market and Vasquez could take over the backup role in the coming months.

Speaking to Radio Caracol, Vasquez discussed his new adventure with Milan and goals with the club.

“I want to be among the best five goalkeepers in history. I spoke with Maldini, and I know that I have to win the starting spot.

“When I arrived in Italy everyone was surprised that I spoke Italian. I like to play a lot with my feet, both of them.

“I talk a lot with teammates, it’s a very important thing for a goalkeeper. You have to help each other.”

The 24-year-old Vasquez has already resolved his bureaucratic issues and will soon be available to coach Stefano Pioli. With Maignan expected to be sidelined for another few weeks, the Colombian shot stopper could soon have his first taste of action in Italy.

Milan’s signing of Vasquez has again sparked the debate regarding the increased reliance on foreign players in Italy in recent years, with some fans frustrated that a local goalkeeper wasn’t given the chance.
